So you’re thinking about getting family photos and not sure where to start? As a mother myself, I can relate. Preparing for family photos sounds exhausting, let alone the process of booking a photo session. That’s why I want to share with you the 5 things I wish you knew about family photos.
the 5 things I wish you knew about family photos
There will never be a perfect time
“I’ll get family photos when my kids are older and better behaved.” This is a frequent thought I hear, especially among mothers with small children. Oh mama, I understand. They are so busy when they are little. We wish they would listen better and the thought of trying to will them into anything sounds daunting.  There will never be a perfect time and quite frankly life does not have to be perfect to be remembered.
Relax
That leads me to my next point. You will enjoy your family photo session if you let go of complete control. Don’t worry about leading the session. Your photographer will be there to guide you through the session and take the pressure off of you.
Today’s ordinary won’t last
This next one is bittersweet. Today’s ordinary will not last. Someday it will be a distant memory. I know, I know, there’s no way these sleepless nights allow space to imagine it, but it’s true. We will forget today, which is why it’s my third reason to get the family photos now.
YouR child’s behavior is normal
This one is a reassurance. As a photographer I can tell you, your children's behavior is pretty normal. Even adults wouldn’t want to smile and act on command for an extended period of time. Managing realistic expectations and mixing up posing and prompts allows sessions to flow more naturally.
Just book the session
My fifth and final thing to share is, just book the session. Find a photographer and ask them some questions. We are happy to help and want you to have this experience!
I guess what I’m trying to say is,
your family photos don’t have to be curated from the perfect experience before, during, and after, to have meaningful value.
Take the plunge and get family photos for this stage of life because the next stage will be here before you know it.
